Should’ve – Could’ve – Would’ve

“Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and
leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.”
2 Corinthains 7:10
Regret is a very painful condition of the heart and soul. As Jan Cox Speas says, “No pain is unbearable except that of regret.” Like all pain, regret tells us something is wrong and needs to be made right. Lingering sadness is devastating, but a sorrow that leads us into repentance (RESOLVE TO LIVE WELL) is a redemptive move within our hearts for the good.

This Sunday, we are starting a new four-week preaching series called “Should’ve – Could’ve – Would’ve.” This is the language of regret. Regret has many relatives we are all too familiar with: disgust, disappointment, guilt, shame, remorse, defeat, and failure. These are not the kind of relatives you want to live with.

According to the National Library of Medicine, the five greatest categories of regret are Education, Career, Romance, parenting, and Self. These are, to be sure, major life categories. Regrets have a way of keeping people stuck and defeated in life. God, by His spirit, calls us forward into hope and healing, restoration, and new life.

My final journey with you in the pulpit will be focused on inviting all of us to master the art of RESOLVE instead of acquiescing to REGRET. Here is the preaching focus we will share:
June 2           Staying on the Main Highway        2 Timothy 4:1-8
June 9           Learning from the Past                  2 Chronicles 36:22-23
June 16         Life Beyond Regret                         Philippians 3:7-14
June 23         Bringing and Sending                     3 John 1-4
I am excited to finish strong and finish well with you on our last leg. May you be heartened, encouraged, emboldened, buttressed, and resolved to stay in the story and remain faithful to your very end!
