What I like most about OHFUMC: The positive outlook and willingness of people to step up to help.
Family: My husband Rich is a UM minister, most recently serving 10 years at the UMC of Anacortes before retiring. We’re parents to 2 children, Christine and Tom.
Education & Career history: I graduated from Asbury University in Wilmore, KY, with a degree in both piano performance and music education. I hold a master’s degree in piano performance from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. Later in life, I completed music therapy studies at Slippery Rock University and a requisite internship (mine was split between Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic/Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, both under the
auspices of UPMC), becoming a board-certified music therapist in 2011. I have worked in: church settings; educational settings—public and private; as a private piano teacher; and as a music therapist, primarily with children and senior citizens.
Favorite TV show: I don’t watch much TV, but it seems I gravitate toward Canadian and British shows. My favorite in recent years was Doc Martin.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? I’d like to visit the British Isles. Most of my ancestors came from England, Scotland, and near Wales, with some German influence as well. I’ve loved reading the Brother Cadfael series by Ellis Peters, so I would enjoy visiting Shrewsbury near the Welsh border where most of her tales were set—about a thousand years ago!
