Why I should Go on a “Walk To Emmaus?”
In my 34 years of ministry, only a few ministry programs have stood out as stellar journeys that decisively alter lives and shape devoted disciples of Jesus. Walk to Emmaus, Stephen Ministry, and Alpha are three that I deeply believe in. they have blessed the congregations that I have served and these three have been a stellar part of Oak Harbor’s history as well.
This fall, I will be helping to lead the men’s Walk To Emmaus retreat weekend down at Lakeside Bible Camp in Clinton. Men, if you have never attended a “Walk” yet, I strongly encourage you to consider signing up. You will have a marvelous time with other men. You will eat well, meet new friends, discover lots of fun and laughter in round table conversations, and find your heart and life melting for more of Jesus in your daily life.
The Puget Sound Walk to Emmaus states: Puget Sound Walk to Emmaus (PSWTE) is a lay-person led, Christ-centered organization developing disciples and equipping them for servant-leadership through spiritual formation retreats, small group connections, and community gatherings. Walk to Emmaus celebrates the diversity of many denominations through the unity of the risen Jesus Christ. All Christians are welcome and invited to participate. Taken from https://pswte.com/.
As always, there will be two Walks on back-to-back weekends. The Men’s Walk will be October 19-22 (Thursday evening through Sunday evening), and the Women’s Walk will be October 26-29 (same time frame). Both events will be held at Lakeside Bible Camp (4170 Bible Camp Dr
Clinton, WA 98236). You can check out this beautiful camp on their website: https://www.lakesidebiblecamp.org
Both camp weekends will make use of lodges with beds and showers, and ADA accessibility is also available. Every person who has ever gone on a walk has been amazed at the attentive care they receive by all the workers who make these weekends possible. This allows you to not be distracted so that your energy and focus can remain on the program. Here’s the basics you need to know:
I am challenging the men and women of this church family to invest in your own discipleship journey by attending one of these life-giving, life-changing weekends. I guarantee you will be surprised by Joy!

- The Walk To Emmaus weekend retreats are FREE to participants. Those who have gone before pay the way for first time pilgrims. You will do no work on your weekend.
- You will only need an OPEN, excited heart to attend.
- An APPLICATION ensures a spot will be saved for you and a sponsor assigned to prepare you for the weekend. Copies are waiting for you on the foyer counter.
- A SPONSOR to help you get set up and oriented for the weekend.
- Our CHURCH FAMILY will provide the sponsor for any interested candidate.
- SPECIAL NEEDS such as meds, dietary restrictions, wheelchairs, logistics, and mobility will be attended to by Walk Weekend workers.
I am challenging the men and women of this church family to invest in your own discipleship journey by attending one of these life-giving, life-changing weekends. I guarantee you will be surprised by Joy!
