Children and Youth Sunday School
Leader: Erin Tombaugh

Christian Education is a vital part of any person’s faith journey. To help foster and grow the Christian education of young people, Oak Harbor FUMC offers both regular activities and special events to teach our children and youth about the love of Jesus Christ.

Sunday School

Sunday School classes are available for children and youth from PreK through 12th grade. Sunday worship is at 10:00 am and children and youth are dismissed for Sunday School partway through the service. Sunday School teachers will meet the children and youth in the Narthex (outside of the Sanctuary) and lead them to their classes in the basement.  Children divide into classes of PreK-K, 1st-2nd, 3rd-5th, and 6th-12th, though some special occasions may bring all children together. Sunday School ends around the same time the worship service does, at which point the teachers will bring children and youth upstairs to Centennial Hall to meet back with their parents for Coffee Fellowship.

Our nursery is available for young children during regular worship services, Wednesday night activities, and other events as needed. Parents/guardians can drop their children off and enjoy their time to worship and fellowship with other adults. Children in the nursery have the opportunity to play and take part in faith-based activities. Following the service or event, parents/guardians can pick their children back up in the nursery.

Wednesday Night Activities

On Wednesday nights we have “Family Night”, with separate activities for children, youth, and adults. Everyone gathers at 6:00 pm for dinner provided by the parents (different themed pot-lucks) and then split into their age groups. Children in kindergarten and younger have activities in the Nursery, 1st-5th graders have a Bible lesson and activities, youth 6th-12th grades have a lesson and games, and parents have a Bible/book study and conversation. The evening’s activities typically wrap up between 7:30 and 8:00 pm. These activities are all held in the church basement, gathering in “God’s Hall”.

Vacation Bible School

Each summer OHFUMC holds Vacation Bible School for a week. VBS is typically in August and takes place Monday-Friday from 9:00-11:30am. Children ages 3 years – 5th grade are welcome to participate in VBS to gain a better understanding of God and His many wonders through songs, crafts, story time, snacks, and other fun activities. All children are welcome, regardless of church affiliation.
